EEC to Honor Two Industry Vets

By Ken Magill

The Direct Marketing Association’s Email Experience Council will be honoring two email marketing veterans at its Email Evolution Conference in Miami this month.

The EEC has named Zack Notes, senior analyst, UncommonGoods, as the recipient of this year’s Stefan Pollard Marketer of the Year Award.

Pollard was a respected email-marketing mentor and best practices proponent. He died unexpectedly in 2010.

Every year since Pollard’s death, the EEC has bestowed his namesake award on someone they believe best exemplifies his mentorship and commitment to driving email best practices.

“Notes … has taken the UncommonGoods’ email program from a broadcast approach to the next level through sophisticated automated programs, including welcome series, cart-abandonment, browse-abandonment, order-confirmation emails with personalized recommendations, and product-back-in-stock emails,” the EEC said in a statement. “The email marketing programs Zack implemented successfully at UncommonGoods resonated greatly with the EEC award subcommittee members – and was consistent with the spirit and philosophy of Stefan Pollard.”

As for the second award, The EEC announced it will honor Dennis Dayman, chief privacy officer, Oracle | Eloqua, with the newly created Email Marketer Thought Leader of the Year Award.

“With more than 20 years in the industry, Dayman has demonstrated a commitment to raising the bar of industry best practices, member trust, and maintaining the vitality of email marketing through his work in dozens of privacy organizations and efforts in thwarting onerous privacy legislation and protecting consumers’ online data,” the EEC said in a statement.

“In particular, he was recognized for always putting the consumer first, while balancing the goals and challenges of marketers and brands. These last traits are exactly what the original Stefan Pollard award was designed to honor.”

When asked via email why the EEC created a second award, Lisa Brown Shosteck, EEC managing director responded the following:

“The EEC expanded its awards to encompass two categories this year in order to fully recognize the talent and leadership found from both 1) brand-side email marketers (The EEC Stefan Pollard Email Marketer of the Year Award) and 2) agencies, technology, and related email marketing vendors (The EEC Stefan Pollard Email Marketing Thought Leader of the Year Award).

“It is important to honor the best and brightest in email marketing from within the marketing company/brand as well as the notable and distinguishable efforts from those that marketers rely on to promote their brand – agencies, technology, and related email-marketing vendors and consultants. The talent from each side was so impressive and expansive, that to fully recognize these stand-out efforts in the email marketing community, the EEC created two awards to recognize an individual in each category.”
