Hey Everybody! I'm in a Book!
By Ken Magill
A psychic once told me I would write a book.
“I see a pretty woman lounging on the couch and you coming in and tossing your book on the coffee table as if to say: ‘I told you so,’” said the psychic.
Well, the wife is pretty and she does lounge on the couch when she isn’t going 115 miles an hour. But I don’t have an “I-told-you-so” kind of relationship with her and I don’t like the idea of tossing anything in her face. She wouldn’t take kindly to it, either.
It’s not how we operate.
So I think the psychic was probably wrong. Even with everything I‘ve written over the years, I don’t think I have a book in me. I’ve got a few started, none of them close to done.
I am also a believer in the famous J. Russell Lynes quote: “Every journalist has a novel in him, which is an excellent place for it.” Just replace the word “novel” with “book” and you understand my thinking.
Also, what if the psychic was right? As long as I don’t write the book, I can’t die. See how that works? Whenever I’m in a plane and things get bumpy, I can just chant to myself: “You haven’t written the book yet. You can’t crash. You haven’t written the book yet. You can’t crash.”
Don’t ever go to a psychic. The effects can last decades.
In any case, though I haven’t written a book and don’t intend to, I was interviewed for an ebook recently by Trish Wend, executive vice president for marketing agency The Quant Method. The book is titled: “Winning Online Strategies: 12 Experts Tell You Step-By-Step How They Do It.”
The book features advice from true online marketing experts and me.
I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but from what I have read so far, I am honored to be included in this group. I did read the part featuring me to make sure I didn’t say anything slobberingly stupid. While I don’t think my chapter calls for a drool bucket, I do think I spent a lot of time stating the obvious.
Here’s a link to the book. From what I’ve read, it contains a lot of sound advice. It’s also free and short so the money/time investment bar is zero and low.
