Magill FFL: Stunners! TowerData Out; NetAtlantic Drowns The @men
12/20/11
By Ken Magill
Man oh man, do the fantasy football gods have a seriously twisted sense of humor.
In four contests of the top eight teams in the Magill Report Fantasy Football League this week, three of the four teams not in the playoffs outscored all four playoff teams.
What’s more, after losing six of their last eight games and limping into the playoffs with a 7-7 record, The NetAtlantic TidalWave beat FreshAddress’s The @men 122.06 to 76.38 to earn a spot in this year’s championship.
Before the playoffs, The @men had won their last six games to finish with a record of 10-4.
Ouch.
And in another interesting turn of events, The Pontiflex DUMBOs—who are looking less dumbo by the week—beat one of the league powerhouses, The TowerData Validators, 120.9 to 119.46, a difference of 1.44 points.
Put another way, the game was decided by a difference of 15 yards in catching or receiving, or a defensive interception or fumble recovery—essentially one play.
As a result, The DUMBOs face the TidalWave in The Magill Report Fantasy Football League’s second championship game next week.
The winner will receive a beautiful lead crystal championship trophy from Crown Awards and a regulation-sized, football-shaped sweet bologna sausage from Dietrich’s Meats in Krumsville, PA (Yum!) personally presented by your truly.
Good luck to both!
TowerData and FreshAddress will play for third place.
Meanwhile, this week’s highest scoring team was Message Systems’ MS Destroyers who beat the wife’s Rivet This! 167.04 to 74.
Message Systems finished the season with a record of 8-6. The wife finished at 7-7.
The other two teams who outscored the playoff contenders were Return Path’s RP GOLIATHS and Spam Primavera—run by Adam Mihalik, a marketing analyst for a really big insurance company I’m not allowed to name. Return Path beat Spam Primavera 139.18 to 131.4.
Spam Primavera finished with a record of 8-6. Return Path finished at 7-7.
